The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has decided to dole out the winning money to the players who participated in the 2019 Cricket World Cup due to the deliberation of Cricket Welfare Association of  Bangladesh (CWAB).

Bangladesh had concluded their World Cup campaign by playing against Pakistan at Lord’s on July 5, 2019. Bangladesh won three matches, out of nine outings of the extravaganza, where the players ill get US$ 40,000 for winning a match, meaning that players were expected to get US$ 120,000 for their three wins inthe flagship event.

After a long-awaited 11 months since the end of the competition, BCB has agreed to give the winning bonus to the players as the CWAB came forward to the players and cleared the strings to make sure that the players get their fair and square money which is nearly Tk two crores.

The CWAB President Naimur Rahman Durjoy confirmed to Cricbuzz on Friday that BCB initially was averse to giving it right away but they managed to convince them to draw off all kinds of hesitancy.

“They would have got the money to win the match. There was some hesitation about whether they deserved the prize money. However, because of the discussion with the board, that hesitation has  also been removed. Now they’re also getting the prize money,” Naimur Rahman said.

The International Federation of Cricketers (FICA) has also played a role in this case as they earlier had an MPA agreement signed between the ICC and the participating countries, which assured that the cricketers will receive a part of this prize money.

As per the agreement, it was said that the board has to pay this amount within 14 days of it being deposited in the board’s account.

The CWAB president assured that the process has been started before Eid-ul-Fitr. Now, as soon as the office will open, the money will be deposited into the players’ accounts, where players will get both prize money and winning money at a time. Naimur Rahman dispraised the accounts department for taking too much time to get the money of the three winning matches.

Naimur Rahman also said that the current ODI skipper Tamim Iqbal has also thanked the executive committee of CWAB through a video-conference for getting clearance about the prize money.

“We negotiated to get their World Cup money from the board. After that, they got confirmation of receiving money from the board over the phone. Which is why the one-day captain Tamim thanked us  in the last meetings of the CWAB executive committee held online on May 9,” he concluded.
