Bangladesh Test skipper Mominul Haque said that if the series against Australia commence in next year then they will have Shakib Al Hasan in full force which could give the team an extra edge to face the Aussies.
Due to the coronavirus pandemic cricketing event worldwide are getting postponed for an indefinite period. Australia and Bangladesh also agreed to postpone their upcoming two-match Test series on Thursday 9 April. The matches were scheduled to be played in June 11 and 23 in Bangladesh.
The Test skipper is however not frustrated as their team will not be able to play the matches, instead he is feeling optimistic about the return of Shakib Al Hasan, countries biggest all-rounder of all time.
In an interview to Cricbuzz on Friday Mominul said that, "I am not disappointed that the two Test matches against Australia is postponed. Rather it has opened the door for us to compete against them with our full strength team considering we will have Shakib bhai back in our squad if the two Test matches get shifted next year."
The left-arm batsman also said as a skipper he have to think better for his team. If the matches took place in the due time then Mominul had to search for an extra left-arm spinner which would be tough as there're not so many good options left. He also thinks if the matches shifted in April then Shakib will be in full form to play the matches.
''The presence of Shakib bhai will naturally bolster our squad because, without him, I would have to search for another left-hand spinner, so it is good from one-side and in that sense I am not extremely worried with how things are panning out at the moment. If the Tests are shifted to April, then Shakib bhai will be more than prepared to take on the Aussies. As a captain, I would always like to have my best player around while taking on teams like Australia."
Shakib Al Hasan is currently serving a one-year ban for not reporting suspected match-fixing approaches to the ICC. But he will return to cricket actively from the next year, and his team is hoping for a good comeback from him as well as his skipper Mominul Haque.
