In response to the COVID-19 pandemic, the Bangladesh Cricket Board on Saturday asked its staff to work remotely from home from March 22 until further notice.

Exceptions will be made only for work that cannot be executed effectively outside the office environment, said BCB officials.

Earlier on Thursday, following an emergency meeting, BCB had postponed all cricketing activities in the country including ongoing Bangabandhu Dhaka Premier League (BDPL) for indefinite time as a precaution to combat against coronavirus spread.

BCB’s decision to ask their staff work remotely has come as a preventive measure amid the rising concern of coronavirus spread in the country.

‘’Board thinks everyone needs to be a part of this precautionary process. In this regard, the staff members, who are involved with us in different level- we will have meeting sessions with them. The doctors will talk about coronavirus there- how they could be aware of coronavirus,’’ BCB chief executive Nizamuddin Chowdhury told reporters after the session at the SBNS on Saturday.

‘’Board will request, not to miss the sessions. Board will try to have everyone close when necessary,’’ he said adding that they have instructed their officials to work remotely from home.

‘’Working remotely from home will be activated from tomorrow (today). We have already discussed with the managers of our department. Everyone is informed of the instructions from the board. We will try to minimize the operational activities as much as we can,’’ he said.

“If any we get any emergency situation— BCB is connected with the ICC. We will try to be present at office during then. If necessary then they will have to come to work from office. (But) in that case, there will be some regulations,’’ he added.
