Bangladesh Cricket Board is all set to cancel the two international T-20 matches between Asia XI and World XI that they were supposed to host to mark the centenary birthday of father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.

BCB had already contacted most of the players but their participation looks to be doubtful due to corona virus.

‘’Yes it is doubtful [ the match between Asia XI and World XI] though nothing is confirmed,’’ said a BCB official.

Bangladesh Cricket Board official said on Monday that they have decided to sell only one ticket to one person in order avoid mass gathering during the two-match series opener between Bangladesh and Zimbabwe as part of precaution for corona virus.

‘’We have decided to sell only one ticket to one person during the two T20’s against Zimbabwe,’’ said Nizamuddin.

‘’The government have directed to discourage public gathering and following that we have taken this initiative,’’ he said.

Bangladesh on Sunday confirmed the presence of COVID-19 cases in the country, saying that three people were tested positive with the corona virus after its outbreak in China in December.

Two of them have recently returned from Italy. All the infected patients are aged between 20 and 35.

With one person being sold only one ticket, the target is to keep the crowd to one-fifth of the capacity at the 25,000-seater Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium and as things stand, the restriction on ticket sales for the Monday T20I is the only decision the BCB has made with regard to COVID-19.

There have been various precautionary steps taken by various cricket boards following the worldwide alarm around the spread of COVID-19. Cricket South Africa has decided to go ahead with the senior men's tour of India, starting later this week, after conducting risk assessment, but the Everest Premier League, a T20 competition in Nepal, has been postponed indefinitely after a government directive to avoid mass gatherings. The Pakistan Super League, however, is going ahead despite a major scare in Karachi.

There are wide-ranging repercussions in the rest of the sporting world too, with fears that this year's Olympic Games in Tokyo might be affected.
