Bangladesh ODI skipper Mashrafee bin Mortaza said that handling the cricketers off-field issues are more important than guiding them inside the ground as his teammates tends to get distracted very easily,

Mashrafe signed off as the most successful ODI captain for Bangladesh till date with 50 wins in 88 matches under his belt. On Friday, Mashrafe bagged his last win defeating visitors Zimbabwe by 123 runs [D/L method] and finish the series 3-0 and ensure a perfect send-off.

‘’I don’t think there is much to do on the field, but off the field there are so many things to do with the players,’’ said Mashrafee.

‘’I think they get disturbed by so many things. It could be from their family side, something might be popping up they might not want to see. Personal problems. Out form, not able to adjust with the coach, fitness issue. It varies man to man. So it’s a captain’s responsibility to support him and also taking the responsibility of the team. No matter how bad they play,’’ he said adding that he had seen many cricketers failing to prolong their career due to focusing too much on becoming the captain rather than emphasizing on their games.

‘’I have seen many cricketers who could not perform because they were focusing entirely on their captaincy rather than giving focus to their game. Leadership quality is good but if someone wants to be the captain he can become selfish in the process,’’ he said.
