The interim Zimbabwe skipper Craig Ervine said the bowlers could not bowl well enough to put the Bangladesh batsmen under pressure at the end of the second day in their one-off Test at Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium in the capital on Sunday.

Zimbabwe started the second day at 226 runs losing six wickets. Despite the failure of the Zimbabwean tail enders, they looked poised reach 300 runs in their first innings.

After the batting failure, Zimbabwean bowlers were also not much instrumental to create enough opportunity to pick wickets, which allowed the Bangladesh batsmen to build big partnerships in the middle.

Consequently the interim Zimbabwean skipper expressed his dissatisfaction with their bowling performance in post-math press conference.

“We did not do build enough pressure today to take those wickets,” Ervine told reporters at Sher-e-Bangla Stadium.

“Bowling wise it was disappointing today(Sunday). We did not hit our areas consistently for long enough. There were little periods where we bowled well and then gave away a boundaries and gave away a few too many and released that pressure,” he told.

Ervine praised young Bangladesh batsman Nazmul Hasan Shanto, who played 71 runs innings after the early dismissal of Saif Hasan at just 18 runs.

Shanto made a 78 runs partnership with Tamim Iqbal who later made another 76 runs partnership with skipper Mominul Haque, who is not out scoring 79 runs with Mushfiqur Rahim.

Mushfiqur who came up to the Test against Zimbabwe after keeping himself apart from Pakistan series, scored 32 runs till the second day stump.

The partnership between the skipper and Mushfiqur is now 68 runs, which could cause more havoc today if they last longer.  

Ervine said they will try their best to break the pair as soon as possible when the day-three starts.

“Shanto hit the ball really well and timing it was pretty well. I did not expect him to stay there for that long but I thought he batted really well,” Ervine said.

“Obviously tomorrow we would like to rectify and obviously try to break this partnership with Mushfiq and Mominul batting. We know they both can bat long we like to break early on,” he told.
