Bangladesh Cricket Board president Nazmul Hasan said on Monday that informed participating in the bid for claiming the rights of hosting ICC events from the next eight-year cycle starting from 2024 to 2031.

The ICC is moving out from its traditional cycle policy based on continent for selecting hosts and introduces a system of awarding the events through a bidding process.

“Bangladesh will of course participate in the bidding. Our advantage of a non-cricketing nation is that they do not have the infrastructure. They will have to develop it. To host a men’s World Cup you need at least eight venues. There are many countries that do not have eight stadiums. Advantage with us and other Test playing nations is that the government does not have to make infrastructure development,” Nazmul told reporters after completing a meeting with the ICC delegation in the secretariat where the visitors came to discuss about their plan to high-ups of different ministry that play major role behind successfully completing an event of this stature.

Newly appointed ICC chief executive officer [CEO] Manu Sawhney and commercial general manager of the organization Campbell Jamieson reached Dhaka on Saturday in a three-day long tour to discuss over Bangladesh’s chances of participating in the bid. The ICC during their meet with B BCB chief Nazmul however turned light on the fact that Bangladesh has the advantage of a ready cricket infrastructure to host the events which many of the countries will have to develop if it is not a cricket playing nation.

“There is a total 24 events involving eight men’s event, eight women’s event and eight U19 events to be held between 2023 and 2031. But the host nation for these events are to be now decided through bidding like it happens with FIFA and Olympic. Countries participate in this bidding and this is not limited to cricket playing countries only,” Nazmul explained to the media Monday.

CB officials highlighted the benefits that are to come from hosting ICC events.

Between 2016 and 2023, Bangladesh, West Indies, South Africa, New Zealand and Sri Lanka did not get to host any events as all had went to big cricketing nations- India, Australia  and England. The officials also informed, any country doesn’t matter if it’s a cricket playing nation or not, can participate in the bidding.
