Bangladesh’s wicket-keeper batsman Mushfiqur Rahim said on Saturday that he was not disheartened after getting snubbed at the recent Indian Premier League auction as he claims it is not the end of the world as life goes on.

Mushfiq was one of two Bangladeshi players, other being pacer Mustafizur Rahman, who were put under the hammer for the 13th IPL in Kolkata on December 19 but both remained unsold.

Mushfiq’s unsold status surprised a few as the player was earlier requested by the IPL authority to keep his name in the auction list because a franchise had shown interest in him.

The 32-year old, who now has been rejected in all 13 IPL auctions according to the Indian cricket website Cricbuzz, had some hope of getting his maiden IPL call-up but that wasn’t to be.

‘’Things like this either happen or they don’t, it doesn’t bother me too much. I had some hope but it didn’t happen,’’ Mushfiqur told reporters at Chattogram on Saturday.

‘’Life moves on,’’ he said.

‘’The BPL [Bangladesh Premier League] is going on right now. I only want to concentrate on BPL right now,’ he added.

Mushfiqur added that he did not want to give his name in the auction but only changed his mind after being approached by his who claimed that one franchise was keen to pick him.

‘’To be honest, I didn’t want to send my name at first. Because I thought no one is going to pick me. So there was no point in keeping my name there. But when they sent in the request, I thought there may be some chance this time,’ said Mushfiqur adding that the name of the franchise who requested to put his name in the list was still unknown to him.

‘’I don’t know a lot about it. I got to know from [media] about which franchises might be interested. I don’t know anything other than that,’ Mushfiqur concluded.

Mushfiqur going unsold in the IPL 2020 auction took a stir of the social media sites. His recent form in the shortest of the game including the match-winning unbeaten 60 off 43 against India at New Delhi last month had ignited hope of a possible selection for the IPL. In the ongoing Bangabandhu Bangladesh Premier League T20, the right-handed batsman has scored 153 runs in four matches at a strike rate of 156.12 involving the highest score of 51-ball 96 for Khulna Tigers.
