Chattogram Challengers stand-in skipper Imrul Kayes hailed left-arm pace bowler Mehedi Hasan Rana for his bowling effort as that helped them to fill the void of genuine spinners in their squad in the ongoing Bangabandhu Bangladesh Premier League.
Rana, who is the leading wicket taker in the ongoing BBPL with his 12 wickets, came up with yet another noteworthy performance against Cumilla Warriors as he claimed 4-28 that helped the home team earn a 16-run win and remain at the top of the points table.
“We do not have a spinner who can take wickets and Rana is fulfilling that role very well and so we are using him in different situations,’’ Imrul told reporters after their win over Warriors at Chattogram.
When there is a good partnership we are bringing Rana to break the partnership and I think this type of bowler makes the job of the captain much easier,’’ he said adding that he is happy that their gamble paid off after they picked Rana who remained unsold in the BBPL players draft.
Challengers included Rana after the players draft at the insistence of the senior cricketers after they found the promising left-arm pace bowler is available as he found no buyers in the players draft table.

‘’Me and Ryaid bhai took up a challenge as far as Rana is concerned about picking him after he failed to get any team in the BBPL. At first, someone spotted him and he turned out to be our trump card,’’ he said.
He is doing his job very well and I think it will be good for his career,
‘’If this type of bowler does not play BBPL you than it becomes difficult as you will see a lot of bowlers don’t get a team in BPL because no one knows them,’’ he said.
‘’There are lot of bowler like Rana [who need to be promoted] and I believe he has done well and in future, he will continue to do well,’’ he said adding that he is seeing a change in the personality of the pacer as the left-arm pacer looks much confident with passing days.
‘’I have played with him in BPL earlier and also in the Dhaka Premier League and I am seeing a lot of difference in Rana as earlier he had no confidence but now that is not the case as he is much more confident.
‘’If I want to know what type of bowl he wants to bowl he tells me about his bowling plan and he is executing that plans quite well and this is important he could not do that[ bowl according to his plan] before,’’ he said.
‘’He was weak infield before but I think he now that is not the case as he has changed a lot with passing days,’’ he said.
Imrul added that he is happy with his team performance until now more so after they were written off initially for not forming a star-studded squad.
‘’Earlier everybody was saying different things when we made the team but playing in the field is different,’’ said Imrul
‘’Everybody is confident and doing well and want to win as many matches as possible and let’s see if we can reach the final it need the luck to play in final and playing in BPL final is a big matter,’’ he said.
