BBPL gets underway with grand opening ceremony

The mega opening ceremony of the Bangabandhu Bangladesh Premier League powered by Basundhara got underway at the Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium on Sunday.
Honorable Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina inaugurated the tournament during the midst of the nearly six-hour-long program that was graced by leading entertainers from home and abroad.
Three private TV channels will telecast the program live from SBNS that includes News24 along with Gazi TV and Massranga TV.
There was huge excitement across the stadium premises for the last week to be part of the opening ceremony and the way it panned out only proved that their wait was worthwhile.
The security in and around the SBNCS got tight since the morning but despite all odds fans flocked into the ground to make sure they don’t miss a bit of the party that was possible only due to the financial backing of Bashundhara.

PM Sheikh Hasina arrived at the show at 6:50 PM and declared the opening of the BBPL two mniutes later by switching into a button that started the spectacular fireworks to mesmerize the crowds present to enjoy the occasion.
Bangabandhu's portrait was shown in the giant screen during the firework that lasted for five minutes 10 seconds.
PM Sheikh Hasina gave a minute-long speech before officially announcing the start of BBPL.
The show was hosted by Hasan Abidur Reza Jewel and the songwriter cum singer appeared lively throughout his stint as the anchor.
D Rock star Shuvo was the first performer of the show and he paid tribute to ailing singer Andrew Kishore by singing his famous number- dak diyacen Doyal amare.
However the show got life when rock singer James started to come up with some of the famous old numbers that kept the crowds going through the memory lane.
Ten giant screens were placed in and around the stage to host one of the biggest shows of this era in Bangladesh to mark the birth anniversary of the father of the nation.
Bollywood superstar Salman Khan and Katrina Kaif was the main attraction of the ceremony while the performance of some local singers was also noteworthy.
The program was set in two parts with Bangladesh star singers ruling the rooster in the first part while the second part was taken care by the entertainers from Bollywood.
The tournament proper, with the participation of seven teams, will, however, roll into the ground from Wednesday at the home of cricket.
