While all his teammates took a break from cricket, Bangladesh opener Tamim Iqbal decided to start his preparation for the upcoming tour of Sri Lanka through some intense individual batting session at the indoor on Tuesday.
Tamim looked like he might took his World Cup disaster more seriously than anyone as the opener had a 45 minute batting session against bowling machine where he tried to knock down every deliveries that he faced much like his old days when he entertained the crowd with drives cuts and pulls.
The left handed might fail to produce the performances that were expected from him in ICC World Cup 2019 but the batsmen showed his effort with some chipping-in innings that remained out of sight for his inconsistency throughout the tournament.
Tamim scored 235 runs in World Cup with an average of 29.37. His best score was 62 in the tournament and the opener failed to produce no 50 plus than the innings against Australia despite that he was the third highest run-getter for Bangladesh in the tournament.
Though, neither the fans nor the batsman might not see that as some sort of great achievement as his team failed to progress from the group stage and eventually spotted at eighth in the point table. So it would be an unfair decision to blame Tamim alone. And the injury woes might also be a reason that did not let the opener be fit at his level best as the he had suffered a major blow just a day before of their first World Cup encounter against South Africa and was unavailable during the warm-up match against India.

Bangladesh could easily enjoy a much smoother World Cup show if the opener was fit. At least the form that he carried before the World Cup could never deny that. Tamim came into the World Cup being the highest scorer for his team since 2017. He scored 1420 runs at an average of 64.54 and a strike rate of 77.80 from the 28 innings he played. So the lack of inconsistency or having a good start and losing the momentum afterwards could be a bad luck he was having that time.
“He was actually much more unfortunate,” BCB director Khaled Mahmud Sujon said when asked about Tamim.
“He could not perform well. If he could, everything would be much easier for us. Everyone had high expectation from him and he performed in some matches, started very well but failed to make it big. So I think it is more of a bad luck”
Though, Sujon does not agree that the opener was totally failed in the tournament. He believes the management and the captain and coach should have some pre back-up plan that they could execute if such a vital batsman fail to play his part.
“He could not play maintaining the reputation he has. But he could not make those innings big. The coach, captain should have some in plan if he fails as he is an important part of the team”
“A performing player can have a bad day. Having a bad is natural. The management should see the matter and have pre-plans for such situations”
Though Sujon added that he is not in a state to answer who had given him the role of playing the anchor role as many believed this role had made him suffer as he failed to play his natural game.
Many people may have a long temperament. If you see the whole World Cup Bangladesh, but from many countries, we have performed in the first ten overs. It's not that bad. That is, the first eight-ten overs in English conditions,’’ said Sujon.
‘’Tamim could not bat under his reputation. I thought, if someone in Bangladesh turn out to be the highest run scorer it is Tamim,’’ he said.
