Bangladesh Cricket Board official said that BCB is not closing their door for former national head coach Chandika despite he left unexpectedly after not completing his terms that put BCB in huge crisis to find a suitable replacement for him.

The head coach post went In what has been termed as a 'mutual separation' by the Bangladesh Cricket Board chief executive Nizamuddin Chowdhury, Steve Rhodes has officially been relieved of his duties as the country's head coach with immediate effect. The 55-year-old was appointed last year in June, with a contract that was understood to last till the World T20 in 2020.

Despite finishing the World Cup at a disappointing eighth spot, Bangladesh did have a moderate campaign in terms of competitiveness and therefore, this development does come as a surprise.

‘’If Chandika is good for us then why not,’’ said Mahmud.

‘’Board will take the decision. The coach who will be good for us a good coach. There are some reasons, nothing happens behind any reason,’’ said Mahmud.

‘’May be Chandika was compelled to go.  I am not saying that Chandika will come. I am also not saying that the board is talking with Chandika. I am saying any of the name who is good for Bangladesh cricket. Chandika’s record is good. It’s not that Chandika will come. The result of the Sri Lanka is good, Sri Lanka may renew his contract,’’ he said.

‘’He can continue in Sri Lanka. We don’t know anything.  It’s better if we don’t talk about any name. the coach who will be good for us and take Bangladesh cricket to the next level . We should bring a coach like that.  I think, as this World Cup is over and next World cup is in four years. And we are thinking about that so we should think long term. The way we want to see our team in the next four years. What will be the strength of our team and who are our future players.

‘’The coach should be given time to work on this.  We shouldn’t be impatient. If we want quick performance then we have to wait. Think about Australia. 20-30 years ago Australia is an apprentice team.  Today, Australia is strong team.  If they become today’s champion it won’t be a surprise,’’ he said.

‘’We have to give some time. There is a thing called team re building. There are many things. If you talk about team seniors, they are ageing too.  May be some of them may not play also. Its not like new players will score runs and take wickets. A mashrafe will take decades to make,’’ he concluded.
