Maxwell, Finch not entering IPL auction

Glenn Maxwell and Aaron Finch will not be available for the IPL 2019 auction in a bid to cope with Australia’s busy schedule ahead of the ICC World Cup in England.
Finch has played for seven teams in the IPL over the last nine seasons and Maxwell has featured for three teams since joining the tournament in 2012. Both the cricketers were released by their respective franchises last month.
A total of 232 overseas players have registered for the auction that will be held in Jaipur on December 18. With the national teams starting their preparatory camps just weeks before the World Cup, most of the foreign cricketers are expected to miss the final few weeks of the IPL.
The cricketers from New Zealand and the West Indies can, however, continue to play till the end of the IPL, since their respective boards haven’t put any restriction on their participation in the tournament.
The cash-rich league is expected to start in late March and end on May 19 while the World Cup is scheduled to start on May 30.
Cricket Australia has reportedly set May 2 as the cut-off day for players in their World Cup squad to join the preparatory camp.
Chris Lynn, Nathan Coulter-Nile, Billy Stanlake, and Andrew Tye are among the players retained by the IPL franchises, apart from banned Aussie duo of Steve Smith and David Warner. Maxwell and Finch were released by Delhi Capitals (formerly Delhi Daredevils) and Kings XI Punjab, respectively.
Australia will host Sri Lanka in January, before facing India and Pakistan in away series, scheduled between February and March. The final match of the Sheffield Shield, Australia’s domestic first-class competition, will be held on April 1.
