Bangladesh ODI skipper Mashrafe Mortaza has reportedly confirmed his participation in the upcoming three-match series against West Indies.
The fast bowler has been nominated to contest from Narail-2 constituency in the country’s 11th general election, scheduled to be held on December 30.
According to Kaler Kantho, a leading Bengali daily, Mashrafe will start campaigning for the election after the ODI series against West Indies, which will run between 9 and 14 December.

“I always had the impulse for politics, because I’ve always believed that the development in our country is not possible strongly without politics.
“Now I have the opportunity to do something for my country. I don't know what is awaiting me after the 2019 World Cup. I value my time and I am paying attention to it. I believe that everything has to be done at the right time,” Mashrafe wrote in a Facebook post.
There were speculations regarding his participation in the 50-over leg of the series, as BCB president Nazmul Hassan could not guarantee his availability for the series.
“Cricket is his top priority,” Nazmul told reporters last week upon his return from Asian Cricket Council’s Annual General Meeting. “He still might miss a match due to some unavoidable circumstances. But we believe that Mashrafee will play all the matches.”
Former Bangladesh captain Naimur Rahman, who has been a member of the Bangladesh parliament 2014, will also contest the election from Manikganj-1 constituency.
