Tigers in dilemma with top-order

Bangladesh’s openers were not as ruthless in the Test series against Zimbabwe as they were in the ODIs, resulting the axe of Liton Das. Though his fellow opener Imrul Kayes retained his place, the left-hander, too, is under scanner.
The team management brought back Soumya Sarkar who made runs in abundance in the domestic circuit, but Bangladesh seemed to be in puzzling state on deciding the top-order combination.
“What I am saying is, we will have another opener out there. I am not saying who it will be. You’ve seen Imrul (Kayes) part of the squad here. It could be very well Imrul, but there are other spots as well. Let’s just wait and see,” said Bangladesh head coach Steve Rhodes who was talking to the reporters in Chittagong .

“Our top-order hasn’t fired as we’d have liked. It happens sometimes. You can’t keep scoring runs all the time. Imrul is a great example. He had great form in the ODIs and at the moment, he hasn’t converted it into the red-ball Test matches. We are hopeful of all our batters, and we will probably let you know at 9.30 when we toss the coin,” Rhodes quipped.
However Rhodes still believes that the batsmen will grow with confidence before the series against West Indies starts.
“I think not getting a fifty plays on your mind a little bit,” Rhodes said on openers’s fifty-draught against Zimbabwe.
“It affects your confidence a little bit. You saw Imrul batting confidently against the white ball but not as confident against the red-ball. In the second innings in Sylhet, Das and Imrul put together a fifty partnership,” he said.
“ It was good, and so we all know that they can play the red-ball and understand what to do. It is just about getting out there and doing it. I am sure confidence grows with everybody, the more time you have at the crease.”
