Earning a spot in the team isn't enough, says Mithun

Mohammad Mithun has been recalled to the Bangladesh national team nearly seven months after making his last appearance for the side. The wicketkeeper-batsman has been in-and-out of the team since making his debut in 2014 and played only 16 international matches. He will be now looking to cement his place in the team as one of the regular faces, Sabbir Rahman, has been banned from international cricket for six months by the Bangladesh Cricket Board.
“Nobody expects to only get a chance in the team. Everyone has the intention to get the opportunity to do something for the team and to cement their place in it.
“We can only try to make our careers more beautiful. The rest is up to God, and our own efforts. Not all of our efforts will be successful either,” said Mithun.
Mithun generally features in the top-order and was pivotal in Bangladesh A’s T20 series win over the Ireland Wolves last month, where in the third match he played a match-winning innings, as an opener, scoring 80 runs off just 39 deliveries.

However, the batsman’s role in the upcoming tournament will be a bit challenging for him as an experienced-packed top-order of the team will leave the finisher’s part for him.
“You can’t focus on your own choice when the team needs you. Every person has a goal in life, but not everything will be filled. [I] have to be prepared for all positions for the sake of the team.
“No matter which position I am batting at, I will try to give 100 percent and I will take care that the team is getting the advantage,” Mithun said.
“I have tried to play positively in all the matches of my career so far. Moreover, I don’t take too much time to get set on the wicket. I try to make runs consistently and rotate the strike. And rotating the strike is very important while batting at six or seven. It's in my nature, so there is nothing to worry about. I am used to playing in this way from the early days.
“Earlier, I used to face the new ball or used to take a lot of time to settle down. Now I just will not have the luxury of time. If you bat at six or seven, then you have to play at a strike rate of 110-130. The situation will require different approaches at different times. But I think, playing at this strike rate is good,” he added.
Regarding getting dropped after the Nidahas Trophy and then making a comeback to the team with his recent performances, Mithun said that he wants to focus on his future rather than contemplating his past.
“Thinking about the past lessens the chances of getting something good in future. I cannot bring it [my past] back. I will try to use the opportunities that are yet to arrive.
“I personally like to always work [hard]. It is not like I prepare myself for any series in particular. I want to be prepared all the time not only for the national team but also to play in our domestic league. A team pays me there [in the domestic league]. So, as a professional cricketer, it is my responsibility to give them my 100 percent,” he concluded.
