Side strain rules Alex Hales out of India ODIs

Alex Hales missed the ODI series opener against India due to a side strain, which has now ruled him out of the remainder of the three-match series. Hales sustained the injury during the training session before the first ODI. England lost the match by 8 wickets following Kuldeep Yadav and Rohit Sharma's heroics.
Hales contributed 147 runs in England's record-breaking ODI innings total against Australia last month. He also top-scored for the side with an unbeaten innings of 58 runs in England's win over India in the second T20I.
Dawid Malan – who had previously replaced Tom Curran in the T20Is – will remain as cover for Hales throughout the 50-over series.
The England team is missing the services of Tom Curran and Chris Woakes as well. Both were ruled out due to injuries and Woakes made his return in Warwickshire’s second XI match against Leicestershire on July 10, after recovering from quad and knee injury.

Sam Curran was included in the ODI squad to replace his elder sibling and has currently been released from the squad to appear in Surrey’s T20 Blast match against Sussex on Friday (July 13). He will rejoin the national side ahead of the second ODI.
James Anderson and Stuart Broad are also recovering from shoulder and ankle problems respectively. The seamers are expected to return before the five-Test series, scheduled to start on August 1.
