Depression is perhaps the most dangerous killer in the
world. Every day, lots of people fall prey to its fangs and lose their lives
in the process. One such victim of depression is the recently deceased Mohammad
Zaryan, the son of former Pakistan cricketer Aamer Hanif.
The reason for Zaryab’s suicide, according to his grieving
father, is that he wasn’t selected for an U19 team after being deemed as
over-aged. Hanif also pointed fingers towards the coaches behavior towards his
son as a reason for his demise.
“My son was pressurised, he was told he was overage. The
coaches’ behaviour towards him forced him [to kill himself],” Hanif was quoted
saying on Geo
News, while also pleading for “other such sons to be saved” from “such [non-cooperative]
environment”.
Just last month, Zaryab was “sent home over an injury excuse”
from Lahore, where he was representing the Karachi U19 team. The youngster
pleaded the management to not send him home because he thought that it wasn’t
serious enough to warrant such an action, but his pleas fell to deaf ears.
