After losing the second Test against Sri Lanka at the Shere Bangla stadium in Mirpur, Mahmudullah Riyad stated his sadness over the carnage that the Bangladeshis had to endure. Despite getting a great start to the Test, with Abdur Razzak and Taijul Islam spearheading the bowling, the batsmen of the Tigers let them down.

And stand-in captain Mahmudullah Riyad also stated just that. He bemoaned the lack of intent in the team and was particularly disgruntled at how the team let their feet of the gas at certain times. However, he had words or praise both for Mominul Haque and the Lankan bowlers.

‘Feeling really disappointed, it was a result oriented pitch and our batsmen let us down. We should have been more careful with the choice of shots, on this wicket, first innings becomes crucial.

‘Their bowlers were very good, always kept us under pressure. We let them off the hook at times. There are some positives though. Mominul was excellent, he played spin very well. We have to take this in our stride moving forward.

‘On these type of wickets, batting last is difficult. There was some pressure, but we needed to show intent, else, we would have had no chance of chasing down 339.’

This is not the end of Sri Lanka’s tour in the nation as Bangladesh are set to lock horns with them in the upcoming T20I series that begins from the 15th of February.
