In the last game against the England U19, the young Tigers played their hearts out and won the game to get one step closer to finishing as the 5th best team in the ICC U19 World Cup. However, they were taken apart by the young Proteas players as they couldn’t overcome them, losing out on the 5th pace in the process.

After winning the toss and batting first on a good batting surface, Bangladeshi top order fell like a pack of cards. None of the top 4 batsmen could score more than 7 runs as Bangladesh were staring at nihil at 33 for 5.

However, some great batting from Afif Hossain and Shakil Hossain helped the Tigers overcome humiliation. The duo had a 97-run partnership that allowed Bangladesh to post a total of 178. Afif ended up with 63 runs while Shakil finished with 61.

For the South Africans, Fraser Jones took 5-wickets for 33 runs, while Akhona Mnyaka took 3 wickets after giving away 27 runs and Jade De Klerk took a wicket for 27 runs.

In response, the South African batsmen chased down the total quite comfortably, thanks to a good start from Matthew Breetzke’s 36 from 61 balls and then some great finishing from Raynard van Tonder and Hermann Rofles, who scored 82* and 44* respectively.

Only Qazi Onik and Roni Hossen could take a wicket each as the rest of the bowlers couldn’t gather any scalp. South Africa won by 8 wickets and in 38.3 overs.

Bangladesh U19 – 178-all out after 41.4 overs.
