The 37-year-old, who holds the record for most ODI centuries with 54, has already retired from T20I and Test cricket and now represents India only in the 50-over format.
Kohli has scored 14,941 runs in ODIs, second only to Sachin Tendulkar's 18,426. He was part of India's World Cup-winning campaign on home soil in 2011 and also featured in the team that lost the 2023 final to Australia.
The 2027 World Cup, jointly hosted by South Africa, Zimbabwe and Namibia in October and November, will be Kohli's fifth appearance at the tournament.
"For me, it's the last World Cup I'm going to play for India," Kohli told broadcaster JioStar on Saturday.
The veteran batter said the prospect of a final World Cup appearance is motivating him to leave everything on the field, with winning the trophy his primary objective.
Kohli also highlighted the physical and mental demands of a 50-over World Cup, particularly with the next edition being played in foreign conditions.
"The intensity of a 50-over World Cup is greater than anything," he said, noting that maintaining that level of intensity throughout a long tournament makes the competition particularly demanding.
Meanwhile, former India captain Rohit Sharma, who also now plays only ODI cricket, said he remains motivated by the prospect of another World Cup campaign.
Kohli and Rohit have both been included in India's squad for the three-match ODI series against the West Indies, with the opening match scheduled for Sunday in Thiruvananthapuram.
