Nepal ambassador to Bangladesh Ghanshyam Bhandari made the proposal during a meeting with Bangladesh’s Youth and Sports Minister Aminul Haque in Dhaka, where the two sides also discussed strengthening sporting and cultural exchanges.
Bangladesh and Nepal have never played a bilateral series.
They have met only twice in international cricket, both in T20 World Cups as Bangladesh won their first meeting by eight wickets in Chattogram in 2014, while they met again 10 years later at the 2024 T20 World Cup in the United States and West Indies, with Bangladesh winning by 21 runs.
Speaking to the media, Bhandari said Nepal were ready to tour Bangladesh for the series or host Bangladesh in Nepal.
“Recently, there has been no bilateral series between Nepal and Bangladesh. Our people, especially those recovering from the recent disaster, need inspiration. We have requested Bangladesh to organise a T20I series. Our team is fully prepared to tour Bangladesh, or we are ready to welcome Bangladesh in Nepal,” he said.
Aminul assured Bhandari that Bangladesh would discuss the proposal with the Bangladesh Cricket Board once it is formally submitted.
“We strongly believe in sports diplomacy and are already working to increase cooperation in different sports,” Aminul said.
Bangladesh has also provided $1 million to Nepal’s Prime Minister’s Disaster Relief Fund to support relief, recovery and humanitarian efforts following the recent disaster.
Bhandari expressed gratitude to Bangladesh for extending support at a difficult time.
