Hasan Mahmud’s six-wicket haul, Tanzid Hasan Tamim’s century and Mehidy Hasan Miraz’s all-round brilliance powered Bangladesh to victory inside three and a half days.
The win came almost 23 years after Bangladesh’s previous Tests in Australia, both of which ended in innings defeats.
It also made Bangladesh the fastest Asian team to win a Test in Australia, achieving the feat in just their third match, ahead of Pakistan (7th) and India (12th). Sri Lanka remain without a win in 15 Tests Down Under.
The victory was Bangladesh’s second-largest Test win by wickets, behind their 10-wicket victory over Pakistan in 2024, and their second Test win in the SENA countries after their famous eight-wicket victory over New Zealand in Mount Maunganui in 2022.
Against Australia, it was Bangladesh’s second win in seven Tests, following their 2017 victory in Mirpur. This time, however, they made history on Australian soil.
