Bangladesh made a steady start to the opening Test against Pakistan, reaching 101 for 2 at lunch on Day 1 at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium after being put in to bat.

After early setbacks, skipper Najmul Hossain Shanto and Mominul Haque steadied the innings with an unbeaten partnership to guide the hosts through the morning session.

Bangladesh lost opener Mahmudul Hasan Joy early for 8 when he edged Shaheen Shah Afridi behind to wicketkeeper Mohammad Rizwan.

The hosts suffered another blow at 31 as Shadman Islam departed for 13, caught off the bowling of Hasan Ali.

From there, Mominul and Shanto rebuilt the innings with positive stroke play and smart rotation of strike.

Shanto looked the more aggressive of the two, remaining unbeaten on 39 off 50 balls with four boundaries and a six, while Mominul was solid on 31 not out from 57 deliveries.

Pakistan’s bowlers enjoyed some early movement, with Shaheen and Hasan claiming a wicket each. Mohammad Abbas was particularly economical, conceding just 13 runs in his eight overs.

Bangladesh will look to build on the promising platform in the second session, with experienced batters Mushfiqur Rahim and Litton Das still to come.
