Former Sarfaraz Ahmed has announced his retirement from international cricket, ending a career that spanned nearly two decades.

The Karachi-born wicketkeeper-batter made his debut against India national cricket team in an ODI in 2007 and went on to play 54 Tests, 117 ODIs and 61 T20Is, scoring 6,164 runs with six centuries and 35 fifties. Behind the stumps, he finished with 315 catches and 56 stumpings.

Sarfaraz captained the Pakistan national cricket team in 100 international matches and led the side to the 2017 ICC Champions Trophy title, where Pakistan famously defeated India in the final to end an eight-year ICC trophy drought.

Under his leadership, Pakistan also rose to the No.1 ranking in T20I cricket and achieved a record streak of 11 consecutive T20I series wins.

He also led Pakistan to victory in the 2006 ICC Under-19 Cricket World Cup and played a key role in backing future stars such as Babar Azam and Shaheen Shah Afridi early in their careers.

His last international appearance came in 2023, and he is now being tipped for a future coaching role with the national team.
