The Pakistan government announced on Sunday that it has permitted the national cricket team to take part in the Men’s ICC T20 World Cup 2026, but has prohibited the team from playing its scheduled match against India on February 15.

In a statement posted on the official X (formerly Twitter) account of the Government of Pakistan, it said approval had been granted for Pakistan’s participation in the tournament, except for the match against India.

Earlier, Pakistan Cricket Board chairman and Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi had met Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif amid speculation that Pakistan might boycott the World Cup following Bangladesh’s withdrawal from the competition. After the meeting, Naqvi said he had briefed the prime minister on the “ICC-related matter” and that a final decision would be taken either on Friday or the following Monday.

The discussion followed the ICC’s decision to replace Bangladesh with Scotland in the tournament. Bangladesh were excluded on January 24 after refusing to tour India, citing security concerns arising from deteriorating political relations between the two neighbouring countries.
