Bangladesh Under-19s booked their place in the semi-finals of the ICC Under-19 Asia Cup with a commanding 39-run victory over Sri Lanka Under-19s in their Group B encounter at ICCA Dubai on Tuesday.

The win confirmed Bangladesh’s progression to the last four, where they will face Pakistan in the second semi-final.

Batting first, Bangladesh posted a competitive total of 225 in 46.3 overs after being put under pressure by disciplined Sri Lankan bowling.

Opener Zawad Abrar led the charge with an aggressive 49 off just 36 balls, striking four fours and as many sixes. Rifat Beg (36) and captain Azizul Hakim (29) added stability in the middle, while Kalam Siddiki contributed 32 off 60 balls.

Late cameos from Farid Hasan, who scored 29 off 40 balls, and Iqbal Hossain Emon’s brisk 12 off 6 balls pushed Bangladesh past the 220 mark.

Kavija Gamage was the pick of the Sri Lankan bowlers with four wickets for 38 runs, while Viran Chamuditha claimed two wickets for just 19 runs in an economical spell.

In reply, Sri Lanka never really recovered from a shaky start and were eventually bowled out for 186 in 49.1 overs, falling well short of the 226-run target.

Early strikes by Samiun Basir, who removed Dimantha Mahavithana and Kithma Withanapathirana, put Sri Lanka on the back foot.

Shahriar Ahmed then took control in the middle overs, returning impressive figures of three for 27, while Iqbal Hossain Emon also chipped in with three wickets.

Samiun Basir finished with two for 27, applying consistent pressure that prevented Sri Lanka from building any significant partnerships.

Chamika Heenatigala (41) and wicketkeeper Aadham Hilmy (39) offered some resistance for Sri Lanka, but Bangladesh’s disciplined bowling attack ensured there was no late surge.
