He will be accompanied by South African Adrian Holdstock, as Nitin Menon will be the TV umpire.
In the Perth Test, Saikat was at the centre of a major talking point after a controversial DRS call involving England batter Jamie Smith.
Smith was given caught behind off Brendan Doggett following a review. The on-field umpire, Nitin Menon, had initially ruled it not out, but the DRS showed a late spike on RTS (Snicko) after the ball passed the bat.
Saikat, serving as the third umpire, concluded that the evidence was sufficient to overturn the decision, leading to Smith’s dismissal, a verdict that drew loud boos from the travelling England supporters.
Despite the heated reaction, Saikat’s decision followed ICC protocols requiring clear evidence to reverse an on-field call.
Having completed his duties in the opening Test, Saikat will now take on a more prominent responsibility as one of the on-field umpires in the Brisbane Test, marking another significant milestone in his growing international career.
Saikat, however, will not be seen in the remaining three Tests of the series.
After the Brisbane Test, Nitin Menon, Jeff Crowe, Ahsan Raza, and Chris Gaffaney will be on duty in Adelaide, Melbourne, and Sydney.
Australia took a 1-0 lead in the five-match series with an eight-wicket win in a two-day Test that saw 19 wickets fall on day one.
