Bangladesh needed just a final push on the fifth morning in Mirpur to finish the job, but Ireland refused to fold easily. Despite starting the day six wickets down and facing an inevitable defeat, the visitors showed unexpected grit on a wearing pitch.

Their resistance stretched deep into the second session before Hasan Murad struck twice in two balls to end the innings and secure Bangladesh’s emphatic 217-run win, sealing a 2–0 whitewash of the Test series.

Earlier in the day, the first session was extended by 20 minutes in an effort to finish the match before lunch, but Bangladesh still couldn’t bowl Ireland out. Starting the morning at 176 for 6, the visitors went to lunch at 263 for 8, thanks to determined batting.

Taijul Islam struck first, trapping McBrine for 21 to claim his 250th Test wicket. Mehidy Hasan Miraz then broke a 48-run stand by dismissing Neil for 30. Gavin Hoey, however, stood firm, putting together a brave 54-run partnership off 191 balls.

Bangladesh eventually needed almost 60 overs to take the remaining four wickets, with Murad finishing the job after the break. Hoey’s gritty 37 off 104 balls and Curtis Campher’s unbeaten 71 off 259 deliveries featuring four boundaries and two sixes, stood out as moments of defiance that will be remembered in Irish cricket.

Taijul delivered another exceptional performance, taking 4 for 104 in 40 overs with seven maidens and finishing the match with eight wickets across both innings.

Murad also impressed, claiming 4 for 44 in 22.3 overs, adding to his two wickets in the first innings. Khaled Ahmed and Mehidy Hasan Miraz picked up one wicket each as Bangladesh wrapped up a dominant series win.

Murad and Taijul Islam both finished well, but the biggest story of the match was Mushfiqur Rahim’s century in his milestone 100th Test, when Tigers posted 476 in the first innings.

Bangladesh had earlier declared their second innings on 297 for four, built on fluent half-centuries from openers Shadman Islam and Mahmudul Hasan Joy, along with a composed 87 from Mominul Haque. Mushfiqur added an unbeaten 53, rounding off a standout performance for the 38-year-old.

Taijul reached another personal milestone as well, becoming the sixth left-arm spinner to claim 250 Test wickets. He had already overtaken Shakib Al Hasan’s tally of 246 to become Bangladesh’s leading wicket-taker earlier in the match.

The Test also saw an unusual interruption when an earthquake briefly halted play on the third day.
