Resuming on 99 not out from Day 1, Mushfiqur continued his innings on the second morning with Litton Das at the other end.
He reached the landmark on the 9th ball of the day, becoming only the 11th batter in Test history to score a century in his 100th match.
Widely regarded as one of Bangladesh’s finest batters, Mushfiqur now boasts 13 Test hundreds from 182 innings.
He is now level with Mominul Haque for the highest number of centuries in Test cricket for Bangladesh.
This rare milestone was first achieved in 1968 by England’s Colin Cowdrey against Australia. Since then, the exclusive list has grown to include Pakistan legend Javed Miandad, West Indies’ Gordon Greenidge, England’s Alex Stewart, Pakistan great Inzamam-ul-Haq, former Australia captain Ricky Ponting, South Africa’s Graeme Smith and Hashim Amla, England’s Joe Root, and Australia’s David Warner. Ponting remains the only player to score centuries in both innings of his 100th Test, a feat recorded against South Africa in Sydney in 2006.
Mushfiqur now joins another elite category as one of only three cricketers to enjoy a Test career spanning 20 years after debuting in the 2000s, alongside James Anderson and Brendan Taylor.
Over his marathon career, Mushfiqur has taken on multiple roles, captaining Bangladesh in 34 Tests and keeping wickets in 55 but he is best remembered as the side’s premier run-maker.
He remains the only Bangladeshi batter to surpass 6,000 Test runs, and among the 18 Tigers batters with over 1,000 Test runs, his average of 38.02 is second only to Tamim Iqbal’s 38.89. His tally of Test centuries also ranks among Bangladesh’s best.
Only a handful of cricketing legends have managed a hundred in their 100th Test. Mushfiqur now joins this prestigious list featuring:
