In its statement, ZC cited Williams’ “history of disciplinary issues and repeated unavailability,” noting that these factors had affected team preparation and overall performance.
The 39-year-old, who has represented Zimbabwe in 273 international matches over a career spanning more than two decades, will see his central contract expire at the end of 2025, with ZC confirming it will not be renewed.
Williams had most recently withdrawn from the Zimbabwe squad on the eve of the Men's T20 World Cup Africa Qualifiers, citing "personal reasons".
"ZC expects all contracted players to uphold the highest standards of professionalism, discipline and compliance with team protocols and anti-doping regulations," the board said in its statement. "While ZC commends him for seeking rehabilitation, withdrawal from team commitments under circumstances involving potential testing raises serious concerns regarding professional and ethical standards."
