Bangladesh’s struggles with both bat and ball continue, as the team recently suffered a 3-0 whitewash against the West Indies in the T20I series.
Although Bangladesh managed to win the preceding ODI series, the batters failed to impress in any of the three matches.
Amidst the team’s ongoing batting woes, speculation had been circulating that former national captain Ashraful was set to take over as the team’s batting coach. That speculation has now been confirmed.
The decision was finalized during the Bangladesh Cricket Board’s (BCB) general meeting held on Monday, confirmed BCB’s Media Committee Chairman Amjad Hossain.
"Mohammad Ashraful has been appointed as the batting coach. He will serve as a specialist batting coach for the Ireland series. For the same series, our director Abdur Razzak has been assigned the role of team director. He will take on the additional responsibility as team director during the Ireland series" Amjad said in a press conference after a long BCB meeting on Monday.
Ashraful won the Global Super League title as the batting coach of Rangpur Riders. Most recently, the former right-handed batter served as the head coach of Barishal Division in the NCL T20.
Mohammad Salahuddin is serving as the senior assistant coach while also carrying out the duties of the batting coach, and Ashraful will join him for this series.
Meanwhile, new BCB director Abdur Razzak will serve as Bangladesh’s team director for the upcoming series.
