Australia batter Travis Head has been released from the ongoing T20I series against India to represent South Australia in the next round of the Sheffield Shield, as selectors balance workloads and priorities ahead of the upcoming Ashes series later this month.

Head, who played in the first three games of the five-match series, joins several senior players returning to domestic red-ball cricket.

Steve Smith, Mitchell Starc, and Josh Hazlewood are set to line up for New South Wales, while Cameron Green is expected to resume bowling for Western Australia against Queensland at the WACA Ground, following a cautious return from back surgery and a recent bout of side soreness.

Australia’s first Test of the home summer, the Ashes opener against England, gets underway on November 21 in Perth, while the T20I series versus India wraps up later this week with matches in Gold Coast and Brisbane.

Meanwhile, India have released Kuldeep Yadav from their T20 squad touring Australia to return home and play for India A in a four-day match against South Africa A that begins Thursday.
