Bangladesh captain Litton Das did not hold back after his team’s 16-run loss to West Indies in the first T20I in Chattogram, expressing frustration over Shamim Hossain Patwari’s reckless batting.

Coming in at No. 4, Shamim managed just 1 run off 4 balls during a crucial phase of the chase, a moment Litton believes shifted the momentum away from Bangladesh.

Speaking after the match, Litton said, “The way Shamim batted was a bit disappointing; he should have taken more responsibility in that situation. Overall, we bowled quite well except for the final over. They also took some excellent catches.”

Tanzim Hasan Sakib top-scored for Bangladesh with 33 off 27 balls, while Towhid Hridoy made 28 from 25. Nasum Ahmed’s quickfire 20 off 13 balls towards the end wasn’t enough to change the outcome.

Litton credited the West Indies for their strong start, particularly in the powerplay. The visitors reached 35 without losing a wicket in the first six overs and added 63 runs during the middle overs despite losing three wickets. “That’s where the match slipped away,” Litton admitted.

Rovman Powell played a vital cameo of 44 off 28 balls, hitting three sixes in the final over off Sakib, while Shai Hope anchored the innings with a steady 46 off 28 deliveries.

Reflecting on the loss, Litton said, “They batted very well in the first 10 overs. The pitch was a bit slow, but if we could have picked up a few early wickets, they would have been under pressure. We need to execute our plans better in the death overs, that’s the key area we’ll focus on in the next match.”
