Bangladesh put up a solid batting display in the third and final ODI against West Indies at the Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium in Mirpur, posting 296 for 8 after opting to bat first on Thursday.
The Tigers were off to a flying start thanks to an explosive 176-run opening stand between Saif Hassan and Soumya Sarkar, both of whom scored brisk half-centuries to lay a strong platform.
Saif, looking in sublime touch, smashed 80 off 72 balls with six fours and as many sixes before falling to Roston Chase. Soumya continued his aggressive approach, hitting 91 off 86 deliveries, decorated with seven boundaries and four maximums, before being dismissed soon after his partner.
From 176 without loss, Bangladesh lost wickets in clusters, slipping to 260 for 7 as the West Indian spinners fought back brilliantly.
Akeal Hosein was the standout performer, claiming 4 for 41 from his 10 overs, including a key burst that dismantled Bangladesh’s middle and lower order.
Captain Najmul Hossain Shanto added a steady 44 off 55, while Towhid Hridoy made 28. Late cameos from Mehidy Hasan Miraz (17 off 17) and Nurul Hasan (16 off 8)* pushed the total close to the 300-mark.
For West Indies, alongside Hosein’s superb spell, Alick Athanaze picked up 2 wickets for 37 runs, and Gudakesh Motie chipped in with one.
