Australia captain Pat Cummins has not resumed bowling after suffering a back injury and will miss the opening Ashes Test against England in Perth in late November, multiple local media outlets reported on Wednesday.

The 32-year-old pacer is still recovering from a lower back stress injury that has bothered him since Australia’s tour of the West Indies earlier this year.

According to The Sydney Morning Herald, recent scans showed that the injury has not yet fully healed, ruling Cummins out of the upcoming Perth Test and casting doubt over his availability for the entire five-match series.

Cricket Australia has stated that there is currently no new update on Cummins’ condition.

Should the Australian captain fail to recover in time for the Perth Test starting on November 21, former skipper Steve Smith is expected to lead the side, with Scott Boland likely to step into the bowling lineup.
