Bangladesh have handed in-form batter Saif Hassan his first-ever ODI call-up, naming him in a 16-member squad for the upcoming three-match series against Afghanistan in Abu Dhabi, starting October 8.

The selectors have made only two changes from the squad that featured in Bangladesh’s last ODI series against Sri Lanka in July.

Opener Parvez Hossain Emon and Litton Das, who is yet to recover fully from a side strain sustained during the Asia Cup, have been left out.

Saif’s selection comes on the back of a strong Asia Cup campaign, where he accumulated 178 runs across four innings at an average of 44.50, making him one of Bangladesh’s most consistent performers in the tournament.

Meanwhile, ODI skipper Mehidy Hasan Miraz, along with Najmul Hossain Shanto, Hasan Mahmud, Tanvir Islam, and Nahid Rana, will travel to the UAE tonight to link up with the rest of the squad, who are currently engaged in a T20I series against the Afghans.

The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) further confirmed that opener Naim Sheikh will join the team once his visa process is cleared.

The three ODIs are scheduled for October 8, 11, and 14 at the Zayed Cricket Stadium, Abu Dhabi.
