Bangladesh held their nerve to seal a four-wicket win over Afghanistan in the first T20I at Sharjah, chasing down 152 with eight balls to spare in a game filled with momentum shifts.

Afghanistan, batting first, posted 151 for 9 in their 20 overs. Rahmanullah Gurbaz anchored the innings with a lively 40 off 31 balls, while veteran Mohammad Nabi smashed 38 from 25 deliveries, including four sixes.

But Bangladesh’s disciplined bowling restricted the hosts, with Rishad Hossain and Tanzim Hasan Sakib picking up two wickets each. Nasum Ahmed was the most economical, conceding just 18 runs in his four overs.

In reply, Bangladesh’s chase was powered by a brilliant 109-run opening partnership between Tanzid Hasan (51 off 37) and Parvez Hossain Emon (54 off 37).

Their aggressive start put the visitors firmly in control. However, a sudden middle-order collapse triggered by Rashid Khan, who took 4 for 18, turned the contest into a nail-biter.

From 109 without loss, Bangladesh stumbled to 118 for 6 in quick time.

It was Nurul Hasan’s cool-headed 23* off 13 balls, supported by Rishad Hossain’s 14* off 9, that steadied the ship and carried Bangladesh home in 18.4 overs.

With this victory, Bangladesh take a 1-0 lead in the series and they will face again tomorrow.
