Afghanistan’s defeat proved doubly costly as they not only lost the match yesterday in the ongoing Asia Cup but also dropped to 10th in the ICC Men’s T20I Team Rankings, allowing Bangladesh to reclaim the 9th position.

In a do-or-die clash, Bangladesh beat Afghanistan by 8 runs to keep their Super Four hopes alive.

Tanzid Hasan’s fifty set up the innings, but the middle order faltered, posting 155. In reply, disciplined spells from Nasum Ahmed, Rishad Hossain, and Mustafizur Rahman (3 wickets) restricted Afghanistan to 146.

With this result, Group B remains wide open. Sri Lanka lead with 4 points and a strong NRR (+1.546). Bangladesh also have 4 points but trail on NRR (–0.270). Afghanistan sit third with 2 points, boosted by a superior NRR (+2.150).

For Bangladesh, now qualification depends on the Sri Lanka–Afghanistan match.
