BCB’s Cricket Operations Chairman Nazmul Abedin Fahim confirmed the decision after Monday’s board meeting, noting that the Australian is one of the most respected umpires in world cricket.
Taufel, who officiated from 2003 to 2012 on the ICC Elite Panel, stood in 74 Tests, 174 ODIs, and 34 T20Is, including World Cups and Ashes series. He won the ICC Umpire of the Year award five consecutive times (2004–2008), a record that still stands.
After retiring in 2012, Taufel worked as an ICC umpire coach. BCB hopes his experience will help raise the competence and credibility of Bangladeshi umpires, often criticized for controversial decisions in domestic cricket.
