Shakib reaches 500 T20 wickets milestone

Shakib Al Hasan
At the Sir Vivian Richards Stadium in Antigua on Sunday night, Shakib Al Hasan dismissed Mohammad Rizwan in his very first over in the ongoing Caribbean Premier League to complete 500 wickets in recognized T20 cricket.

With this feat, Shakib has become the first left-arm bowler in history to achieve the milestone. Before him, only right-arm bowlers had reached 500 wickets — Rashid Khan (660), Dwayne Bravo (631), Sunil Narine (590) and Imran Tahir (554).

"This is the result of a lot of hard work. I’m very happy to reach such a milestone. It’s been a long career, and I’m satisfied with what I’ve achieved. I haven’t bowled a lot recently, and sometimes I feel a bit nervous. There has been some negativity around not bowling enough overs, but everything I do is for the team. Whenever I get the chance, I just want to contribute. My goal is always to play a part for my team," Shakib said.
Shakib’s all-round brilliance also shines with the bat, having scored 7,549 runs in the format. This makes him the first cricketer in the world to record the double of 7,000 runs and 500 wickets in T20s, a testament to his legendary status.

On his way to the landmark, Shakib picked up 149 wickets each in Bangladesh colors and the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL). He also has 63 wickets in the IPL, 40 in the CPL and 28 in England’s Vitality Blast.
