Russell to retire from international cricket at home

Andre Russell
West Indies all-rounder Andre Russell is expected to announce his retirement from international cricket on Wednesday.

The 37-year-old has been named in West Indies' squad for the upcoming five-match T20I series against Australia, starting this Sunday. However, according to ESPNcricinfo, the first two matches at Sabina Park in Jamaica—Russell’s home ground—will serve as his international farewell.

Russell has represented the West Indies exclusively in T20Is since 2019, amassing 84 caps in the shortest format. His retirement will come around seven months before the 2026 T20 World Cup, scheduled to be held in India and Sri Lanka in February 2026.

His departure follows closely behind that of Nicholas Pooran, making Russell the second major West Indies player to step away from international cricket in under two months.

A two-time T20 World Cup winner (2012 and 2016), Russell played a key role in both triumphs—particularly in the 2016 final, where he opened the bowling and dismissed England’s Alex Hales early in the innings at Eden Gardens, Kolkata.
