Italy have secured a historic berth in the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026. Despite suffering a heavy nine-wicket defeat to the Netherlands in their final match of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup Europe Qualifier 2025 at The Hague on Friday, the Italian side still managed to clinch a spot in the top two.

This means they will participate in their first-ever ICC World Cup, set to be held in India and Sri Lanka in February–March 2026.

This remarkable achievement follows Italy’s stunning 12-run victory over Scotland earlier in the tournament, a result that proved crucial in their qualification campaign. Their consistent performance throughout the qualifier ensured they edged past Jersey, who also finished with 5 points but fell behind on Net Run Rate.

The 2026 T20 World Cup will see matches hosted across various venues in India and Sri Lanka. Italy will be hoping to carry their momentum into the global tournament and make a strong debut on the world stage.

Italy’s qualification, alongside the Netherlands, came as a major disappointment for Jersey, who narrowly missed out despite matching Italy on points. The final standings highlight the increasing competitiveness of associate nations in global cricket.

Earlier, in the 2024 edition held in the USA and West Indies, debutants Uganda, Canada, and the USA made headlines—with the Americans even reaching the Super 8s. Italy now join that growing list of emerging cricketing nations set to make their mark at the highest level.
