Despite his efforts, Sri Lanka were bowled out for 244, a target that seemed within reach. However, Bangladesh crumbled dramatically, losing 7 wickets for just 5 runs, turning 100 for 2 into 105 for 8, and eventually being bowled out for 167, losing the match by 77 runs.
This shocking collapse set a new unwanted record for Bangladesh in ODIs — no team in history had ever lost their 2nd to 8th wickets within such a small margin (5 runs). What started as a promising chase quickly turned into a disaster.
Openers Parvez Hossain Emon and Tanzid Hasan Tamim gave Bangladesh a steady start, putting on 29 runs. Emon, on debut, fell for 13, but Tanzid and Najmul Hossain Shanto took the score to 100. Shanto was run out for 23, and from there, Bangladesh lost control.

The momentum shifted entirely in the 18th over, when leg-spinner Wanindu Hasaranga trapped Liton Das for a duck and removed Tanzid Tamim later in the same over.

Only Jaker Ali showed some fight, scoring 51 off 64 balls with four fours and four sixes, taking Bangladesh past 150. But his dismissal ended the innings at 167.
Sri Lanka’s spin duo of Wanindu Hasaranga and Kamindu Mendis did the damage with the ball.
Hasaranga was the star with 4 wickets for just 10 runs, while Kamindu took 3 for 19. Asitha Fernando and Maheesh Theekshana chipped in with one wicket each.
With this win, Sri Lanka go 1–0 up in the three-match ODI series.
