"I've been overwhelmed with love and support since announcing my retirement," Mathews said. "It’s been beyond anything I could have imagined. I’m truly humbled. I’m forever grateful to those who supported me from the beginning. It hasn’t been an easy journey—full of highs and lows—but that support helped me carry on."

Calling Test cricket his favorite format, Mathews admitted it was not easy to say goodbye. "This is a very emotional moment because Test cricket has always been my most cherished format. But now it's time to pass the bat to the next generation."

The 36-year-old also took time to praise Bangladesh for their performance in the Galle Test. "Bangladesh played an excellent match. Mushfiqur and Shanto batted brilliantly. Pathum also did well for us."
Reflecting on his career, Mathews highlighted two of his most memorable achievements. "Winning in England and whitewashing Australia 3-0 at home are the two greatest moments of my Test career. Those victories were the result of collective team efforts."
He concluded by thanking everyone who had been part of his journey. "I’m deeply thankful to all the players, coaches, and fans who stood by me from the start. Your love is one of the greatest gifts of my life. Thank you, everyone."
