Former cricketer Greg Chappell believes that the BCCI's method of nurturing youngsters has benefited the Indian cricket team and set the foundation for their recent success against Australia in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy. The Veteran claimed that Australian cricket needs to take inspiration from India, and strive to regain its lost success.
The former Indian coach also criticised Cricket Australia's way of training youngsters for international cricket. "By the time an Indian player reaches the national XI, he has had an all-round apprenticeship that prepares him to walk into the Indian side with a reasonable chance of success.” he said.
"Our young cricketers are weekend warriors compared to their Indian compatriots, who get challenging matchplay from the Under-16 age group onwards. In comparison, Pucovski and Cameron Green are still in primary school in terms of experience. He further added.

Chappell revealed that Indian cricketers get competitive fixtures from the under-16 group, when boys in his country are only playing on the weekends.
Not only that, Chappell thinks India's cricket structure is so rich that the country's youth team can easily beat any first-class team in Australia. Because from a young age, Indians played competitive cricket and developed them to play at the international level. According to him, it is possible to form the top 5 teams in the world from one India.
'India's youth teams can defeat some of our first-class teams. They learn to cope with the pressures of international cricket by playing highly competitive matches at various stages. It is not possible to play cricket at that level by practicing in the net or playing with a low strength team. There are 38 first-class teams in India, which shows the extent of their talent.’
Chappell also feels that Australia are no more the best cricket team in the world, but still have time to regain their success. He wrote that Cricket Australia needs to change its attitude and invest in talent.
