Bangladesh pace bowler Mustafizur Rahman failed to take part in the upcoming edition of Indian Premier League as Bangladesh Cricket Board official said on refused to provide him with no-objection certificate for the impending tour of Sri Lanka.

Mustafizur was approached by Kolkata Knight Riders and Mumbai Indians as they were keen to have his service in IPL and in order to get his service contacted the board but BCB refused to provide the NOC as they have three-match Test series against Sri Lanka that is expected to start in Kandy from October 24.

The series and the IPL collided and so board refused to give the NOC.

‘’Yes, he [Mustafizur] had offer from the IPL but we did not give him NOC as we have Sri Lanka tour,’’ said BCB cricket operation chairman Akram Khan on Friday.

Earlier BCB allowed Mustafizur to register for the Indian Premier League auction in order to regain his form though the board had barred the pacer from playing T20 leagues because of injury concerns in July last year.

Mustafizur said that he was approached by Kolkata Knight Riders and Mumbai Indians around a month ago after the new schedule for this year’s IPL got announced.

‘’Almost a month ago, I received an offer from Kolkata Knight Riders. They were ready to take me in the team. They first sent me an email. Then they contacted the board, they most likely sent an email to them too. Maybe KKR authority wanted to check my availability, but BCB declined as there is the Sri Lanka tour,’’ said Mustafizur adding that Mumbai Indians, Mustafiz’s last IPL team, also contacted him to secure his services for this season, but national duty forced him to decline the offer.

‘‘Mumbai Indians also contacted me. Maybe just before or after they reached the UAE, I am having difficulty remembering the exact date. Both Mumbai Indians and Kolkata Knight Riders contacted me in almost same time,’’ he said.

Earlier in 2016, Mustafiz made a huge splash in his first season of the IPL, when he took 17 wickets in 16 matches with a cheap economy rate of 6.90 for Sunrisers Hyderabad, playing a pivotal role in the franchise’s first title victory and was also named the ‘Emerging Player of the Tournament’

Injuries kept him mostly out of the Hyedarabad side in the following season, where he played just one match.

In 2018, Mustafiz was bought by Mumbai Indians during the player’s auction for Rupees 2.20 crores but he had an average season, bagging just seven wickets in seven matches for a high economy rate of 8.36.

No franchises showed any interest for Mustafiz in the auction for IPL 2020, but the scenario changed after the COVID-19 outbreak pushed the IPL to September-November from its initial March-May schedule and the venue also got shifted to the UAE.

The teams had to rethink their strategy to for the new venue and some foreign players were hesitant to play in the tournament for health reasons, opening up spaces for other players.

Mumbai Indians had to sign Aussie pacer James Pattinson just before the start of the tournament as their Sri Lankan star pacer Lasith Malinga opted out of the tournament while the Knight Riders are still looking to replace their injured pacer Harry Gurney.
