MS Dhoni, the former India captain and two-time World Cup winner, has announced his retirement from international cricket on Saturday (August 15) through his Instagram post.
"Thanks a lot for ur love and support throughout. from 1929 hrs consider me as Retired (sic)", read the post of the formal announcement.
However, the former India captain who isn’t as active as he used to be on Social media earlier shared the post in a video form. It was a collage video of his cricket matches that started in 2004. The video had the images from his debut till 2019 World Cup semi-final match as well.

While the post did not mention the formats from where he is retiring, MS Dhoni is expected to play in the 13th edition of Indian Premier League from the next month in the UAE as he was seen earlier today arriving in Chennai for Chennai Super Kings' training camp before they fly to the venue. Moreover, the camp was scheduled as he wanted to have some net practices before the cash-rich league.
MS Dhoni last played in an international match in 2019 World Cup semifinal where India lost to New Zealand. Since then, he did not feature in any of the games and the questions were raised on his retirement as well.
While it didn’t last long as he was seen hitting the nets for the 2020 edition of IPL in March before the COVID-19 has brought the entire world into a standstill.
MS Dhoni has also played 90 Test matches and 98 Twenty20 internationals in his international career. With more than 15,000 international runs across formats, he has scored 16 centuries and has more than 800 victims as wicketkeeper as well. Notably, he is the only captain to win all three ICC trophies apart from his formidable record in the IPL history.
While his legacy stretches beyond the numbers, he will be remembered as one of the best captains as well as finishers in world cricket.
