West Indies Cricket (WIC) named unheralded fast bowler Chemar Holder and leg-spinning all-rounder Nkrumah Bonner in the 14-man squad for the three-match Test series against hosts England which will be played in July.

Under the captaincy of Jason Holder, there will be leg-spinning all-rounder Nkrumah Bonner, who is yet to make his Test debut and the 22-year-old fast bowler Chemar Holder, who is also in the squad and could make his Test debut.

Darren Bravo, Shimron Hetmyer and Keemo Paul are not included in the squad as they have opted out of the trip which will start with the concern of the deadly coronavirus pandemic.

The seamers like Shannon Gabriel and Oshane Thomas are only named on the 11-strong reserve list.

The matches will be played at the Ageas Bowl and Emirates Old Trafford where all three matches will be played behind closed doors and also following the bio-secure bubbles.

The first Test match will take place in Southampton on July 8, while the second and third match will be played in Lancashire’s home ground.

West Indies are scheduled to arrive in London on June 9 and will be based at Old Trafford for initial quarantine and training for three weeks.

England skipper Joe Root on Tuesday uttered his gratitude to the West Indies side for agreeing to tour despite the ongoing situation.

“It’s been extremely difficult times for everyone around the world,” Joe Root said.

“On the state of things in the UK, from my knowledge and what I’ve been made aware of, the things that have been put in place have been outstanding. The work that the medical team and the ECB logistically have done to make the bubble and the environment as safe as possible is incredible,” Root told media.

“For the West Indies to still come over here, they are obviously helping the game massively. Of course, safety is everything, and it wouldn’t be possible if that was going to be compromised. Still, it must be extremely scary and I think the whole cricketing world will be grateful to see some cricket again,” he added.
