T20 superstar Chris Gayle could make a return to the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL), with the West Indies great expressing his desire to play in the tournament again.

Imrul Kayes, the former Bangladesh cricketer, revealed that Gayle asked about the BPL during a conversation at the World Championship of Legends.

Speaking to Cricfrenzy, Imrul said the self-proclaimed ‘Universe Boss’ told him he would love to feature in the franchise-based competition again if the opportunity arose.

Gayle remains one of the biggest names in BPL history, having enjoyed immense popularity among Bangladeshi fans and produced several memorable performances in the tournament.

“Gayle asked me about the current situation of the BPL. I asked him whether he would play in the tournament, and he said he definitely wanted to,” Imrul told Cricfrenzy.

According to Imrul, Gayle also spoke fondly of his experience in Bangladesh, saying he enjoyed playing in the BPL and particularly liked Dhaka.

“Gayle said he enjoys the BPL and has always liked Dhaka. I told him that perhaps the BPL would return on a bigger scale next year,” Imrul added.

Gayle first featured in the BPL for Barisal Burners in 2012 before producing a memorable campaign with Rangpur Riders in 2017.

His most iconic performance came in the final against Dhaka Dynamites, when he smashed an unbeaten 146 off just 69 balls, including 18 sixes, to guide Rangpur to the title.

Gayle finished the tournament with 485 runs, the highest tally of the competition, and was named Player of the Tournament.
